The process starts with having songs practiced and ready.  For larger projects, pre-production time may be scheduled.  For smaller projects, like single songs, this will not be needed.  Practice, practice, practice to be ready to capture some magical takes.  There are two primary ways the studio can record.  Conventionally, drums can be recorded and mixed to allow the remaining instruments and parts to be tracked over.  Otherwise, the entire band can be recorded "off the floor" to get a live cohesive band feel to the recordings.  This can be done easily and parts can be overdubbed to allow tighter performances.  Click or no click is up to the artists.
